North Central Shared Facility
The planned North Central Shared Facility is intended to provide services focused on youth and families. Albert Library is part of this partnership between community, schools and service providers. The concept designs have been developed, and the idea has received general positive approval. Planners are currently working out how the programs to be operating in the facility will be integrated and determining funding for further development and construction. There is some concern about the decision to demolish the historic Scott Collegiate building to make way for the new facility. See our News page

New Central Library - Concept Designs - Under Development
Plans for Central Branch are still under development. This phase of the planning is taking more time than originally expected. No date has been set for a meeting on the concept design that had been anticipated in the winter or spring of 2010.
The stated goal is to either replace or expand and renovate the current building. Currently the focus is on creating a large-scale mixed-use development. The RPL hired P3 Architecture Ltd. and Harvard Developments Inc. to develop the design and the partnerships needed. Some public consultations were held in 2009. Since those public consultations, meetings about  library design have been held with Library staff. Discussions have been held with organizations who are potential partners. Public input is needed as this could be a major development that may change the entire block bounded by Victoria Avenue, Lorne Street, 12th Avenue and Smith Street. It could affect the Masonic Temple, Knox-Metropolitan Church and the federal tax building. Contact the RPL to have your name placed on a list to be notified of future meetings. This is an opportunity for the public to provide positive input into the process. See our News page RPL Budget Approved The Regina Public Library Budget was tabled at City Council on Monday, March 22nd. The final debate and approval occured on Tuesday, April 27th. You can see the budget at http://www.regina.ca/AssetFactory.aspx?did=4590

The RPL asked for and received approval for an increase to the mill rate to allow a 2.9% increase in the budget.(City Council does not amend the Library budget, but either accepts or rejects the RPL's request changes to the mill rate.)

One Hundred Year History of the Regina Public Library
In commemoration of the Regina Public Library’s 100-year anniversary, the Friends of the RPL are undertaking a history book on the past hundred years of the Regina Public Library, in partnership with the RPL and the Canadian Plains Research Center. The history project will include excerpts from oral histories of former RPL staff, essays by library staff and library supporters, archival documents and photos. See our News page
