FRPL Presentation on RPL Budget - April 20, 2009 - Please attend The Regina Public Library budget for the upcoming year will be discussed at Regina City Council on Monday April 20. The meeting starts at 5:30 in the Henry Baker Hall, Main Floor, City Hall, 2476 Victoria Avenue. (Council meetings are also broadcast live on Access Communications Channel 7.)

City Council does not amend the Library budget, but either accepts or rejects the Library’s request for any changes to the mill rate.

This is an opportunity for Regina residents to show their continued enthusiasm and support for the libraries. FRPL will be making a presentation at this meeting.

City Council Agendas are available on the Friday afternoon prior to each meeting, but this agenda may be available earlier, on April 3. When the Council agenda is posted, the Library budget will be posted. To make a presentation to City Council regarding an agenda item, you must:
  • File a written brief with the Office of the City Clerk.
  • The brief should include the request being made to City Council.
  • It should also include the full text of your presentation, which can be up to 10 minutes long.
Submit the request and the brief to the Office of the City Clerk, 15th Floor, City Hall, NO LATER THAN 1 p.m. on the Thursday PRIOR to the scheduled meeting. See http://www.regina.ca/Page89.aspx

Plans for Revamping Central Library A major expansion of Central Library is being planned. The RPL is in the process of hiring an architectural firm to replace or expand and renovate the current building. FRPL has a representative on the committee selecting the architect. See our News page

Prince of Wales Library at Core Ritchie Prince of Wales Library is to be relocated to a new building attached to the Core Ritchie Neighborhood Centre. Because it is City property, public consultations will be held in April, 2009. This is an opportunity for residents and library supporters to express their views on the proposed location. For consultation dates, contact the Regina Public Library. See our News page

North Central Shared Facility The facility is intended to provide services from a shared facility focused on youth and families. It is a partnership between community, schools and service providers. The Albert Library is part of this project. The concept designs have been developed, and the idea has received general approval, but there is concern about the future use of possible demotion of Scott Collegiate. Public presentations are planned in spring 2009. See our News page

One Hundred Year History of the Regina Public Library In commemoration of the Regina Public Library’s 100-year anniversary, the Friends of the RPL are undertaking a history book on the past hundred years of the Regina Public Library, in partnership with the RPL and the Canadian Plains Research Center. The history project will include excerpts from oral histories of former RPL staff, essays by library staff and library supporters, archival documents and photos.

The project has recently received additional funding. See our News page
